Popular makuuchi veteran Takamisakari and Yokozuna Asashoryu have very little in common. One thing they do share
is that each has a signature pre-bout warmup routine that can be seen every day of the honbasho. In the case of
Asashoryu, his fierce expression, purposeful stride towards his corner of the dohyo and powerful slap to the mawashi
reinforce his ferocious demeanour. Takamisakari's series of slaps to the face, eccentric arm gestures, fearful
grimaces and mincing steps are merely comical, although very popular with the crowd.
