What are the odds?

In one of the most exciting open basho in recent years, the Yokozuna was surprisingly defeated and injured on
the first day of the tournament and struggled to make any impact on the yusho race for most of the tournament.
A strong run by Ozeki Kisenosato led to the possibility of the first Japanese yusho in years, but he fell by
the wayside on the final day. That left outsiders Tochiozan and veteran Mongolian Kyokutenho in a
two-way play-off, which was swiftly won by Kyokutenho.

All sorts of records were broken by this unexpected outcome, including:
- the first yusho to be won in a play-off by a maegashira rikishi,
- the oldest rikishi in the modern era to take his first yusho and
- the 50th yusho to be won by a Mongolian.
