Climbing out of a hole

> View Morph <

Ozeki Goeido was kadoban at the start of the recent Hatsu Basho and needed to get a winning record
in order to avoid demotion. He struggled through most of the basho and looked to be in grave
danger of failing to make his eight wins. Although he appeared to be looking down the barrel at
several stages of the basho, by some miracle he managed to win his last three bouts to reach safety.

Some viewers felt that not all of his opponents exerted themselves to their utmost. Whether he got out of his hole single-handedly or whether
he was helped, the sumo association will be grateful not to have to demote their Osaka-born ozeki just in time for his home basho.
