Scouted by Yokozuna Hakuho himself, Yamaguchi Masahiro made his sumo debut at the rank of makushita
tsukedashi in March 2012; he will be making his juryo debut in the Aki basho with the new shikona Daikiho.
Although the Yokozuna was in Mongolia when the promotion was announced, he sent Yamaguchi a
congratulatory telegram in which he encouraged him to progress through juryo in only two basho,
as he did himself, in order to serve as Hakuho's attendant in the Yokozuna dohyo-iri.
