The very popular maegashira rikishi Endo attracts enormous sponsorship for his bouts. Whereas the Japanese
people were probably hoping that he would be the next Takanohana, he is more naturally fitting into the role
vacated by the retired Takamisakari, featuring in commercials and having almost as many kensho placed on
his bouts as Yokozuna Hakuho, providing enormous motivation to his opponents.
This and his various injuries mean that his opponents benefit far more from his popularity than he does himself.
