The Japan Sumo Association will shortly be holding elections for its directors and chief executive. Standing for election as rijicho are:
- Hakkaku Oyakata who took over the reins as a stand-in on the recent death of Kitanoumi and
- Isegahama Oyakata, head of one of the largest and most powerful stables.
Another possible candidate is Japan's darling Takanohana, one of the all-time greats of Sumo. Barring apocalypse,
Takanohana will surely be rijicho someday. Whatever happens at this election, he could well have the last laugh.
