Ozeki Kisenosato's candidature for Yokozuna promotion was put to the test yet again (and foundered yet again) at the recent
Aki Basho. Stepping into the breach with a brilliant 15-0 Yusho-winning performance was Ozeki Goeido, who is now on a
Yokozuna promotion run of his own. Kisenosato's run is back to square one.
Following several years in which Kisenosato was seen as the most likely Japanese candidate to win the makuuchi yusho,
Ozeki Kotoshogiku surprisingly beat him to it in January. Now he has been overtaken yet again.
