Among the noteworthy performances at the recent Hatsu Basho were veteran Sokokurai's 12-3 jun-yusho and the 11-4 scores
by Mitakeumi, Takayasu and Takanoiwa, who captured the scalps of 5 yokozuna and 5 ozeki between them.
All four rikishi won sansho (tournament prizes) for their efforts.
