Myogiryu has had a hugely impressive career since his debut as makushita tsukedashi in May 2009.
Notwithstanding a lay-off of nearly 4 complete basho due to injury, he has risen rapidly up
the ranks and looked almost completely comfortable at each new stage.
In the six tournaments from his makuuchi debut in November 2011, he has won 4 Ginosho (prizes for
technique) and beaten 7 ozeki. Following his first basho as komusubi in July, he was promoted
to sekiwake for the recent Aki Basho and got a double-digit score. We can surely hope to
see him competing at a more exalted rank in the reasonably near future.
