Takayasu has just been promoted to ozeki following the recent Natsu Basho. Set a target of 10 wins prior to the basho, he sailed home;
having already achieved 10 wins by the end of day 12, he sealed his promotion by defeating yusho contender Yokozuna Harumafuji.
When Takayasu made his juryo debut in November 2010 alongside Masunoyama, the two of them
were the first rikishi born in the Heisei Era to become sekitori. Takayasu has since progressed to
be the first Heisei-born makuuchi and sanyaku rikishi. He is the second Heisei-born ozeki
after Terunofuji but will he be the first Heisei-born yokozuna?
