Big Bulgarian Aoiyama achieved his best ever score, 13-2, at the recent Nagoya Basho
and remained in the yusho race until the final day of the tournament.
If Mongolian Yokozuna Hakuho had lost his final bout against Harumafuji, there would have been a yusho play-off
between Aoiyama and Hakuho. In the event Hakuho beat Harumafuji to take his 39th makuuchi yusho.
Aoiyama means Blue Mountain.
